Late Production JDM Double-Cab: 1977 Toyota Stout 200

This 1977 Toyota Stout is a JDM double-cab from the penultimate year of second-gen production, and provides some very interesting contrasts to earlier Mk2 Stouts sold here in North America from ~1964-’68. For one, our versions were never offered with more than two doors, and they also featured different interiors, grilles and other details from this late-production example. Power comes from a 2.0-liter 5R OHV four driving the rear wheels through a column-shifted 4-speed manual, where US trucks came exclusively with a 1.9-liter 3R-B with the same trans setup. The truck looks to be in solid, usable driver-level condition throughout, with changes from stock apparently limited to a two-tone paint scheme.Find it here on Goo Net in Hamamatsu, Japan for 1.76m JPY (~$16k USD today). Special thanks to BaT reader Kyle K. for this submission.

Yesterday’s comments of note

A few of the comments that stood out to us yesterday:

“@sludgo, if i get completely stupid and bid this up for a winning number you would be welcome to help me navigate this time capsule round this town. In fact, we can drive it over to see my dad at a gas station I bought so he could have an office and a place to work. My dad is 89 and work he does. We are the only place in the area that pumps 100 octane. After we grabbed some BBQ (yes at the gas station) We could fill this baby up and Just keep driving. There are some pretty good twisties right…”

14DrKnow commented on 1959 Porsche 356A Emory Outlaw Sunroof Coupe

“I will chime in here as the guy that won one of these on BaT a few weeks ago. These things are amazing.

You get your body easily in the little guy and you feel like you are 16. It’s your first time driving stick. Your mind has to think about using a gas pedal that seems like it’s directly in front of the passenger. You wonder what this clutch situation is going to be like.

A note here about vehicle entry. You just get in. I’m 43 and I just got in. I have a couple P cars and you…”

10Boomer2 commented on 1974 Innocenti Mini Cooper 1300 Export

“come on guys I have a lot of kids to fit in this – it’s this or the minivan!”

9roccogman commented on 1992 Mercedes-Benz 300D 2.5 Turbo Limousine

“We used to have a Messerschmitt – and would would do the “wedding crashers” routine on parades – they always waved us right in like we belonged there”

7Ilovecars commented on No Reserve: 1957 BMW Isetta 300

“Doesn’t get more iconic than this. Those who grew up in the 90s (see: born in the 80s) had at least one, likely more, of the Matchbox/HotWheels versions. Throw in an AMT/Revell model kit and a poster on the wall and the legacy is cemented. A bit mind-bending to think such an iconic car is now available to purchase – albeit at a price – for us to drive as adults.”
